Happy Halloween Hope you all have your costumes ready to trick or treat next weekend. Can you believe we are almost at November. The holidays are around the corner. We have plenty to do this time of year. Throughout the summer and fall so far, BCRW is busy. In September, Vice President Debbie Dennis and I traveled to Orlando for the National Federation of Republican Women's Convention. We are still flying high from such a fun and enlightening experience. Ask us about all the speakers and the new friends we met. On November 12 and 13 we will be going to Raleigh for the North Carolina Federation meeting. This is open to all members so think about joining us. Let me know if you are thinking about it so I can help you register. It is definitely worthwhile for anyone really interested in getting involved and feeling the excitement.
Locally, we had a great field trip to Cape Fear Regional Jetport In October. Howie Franklin, airport manager was fun and interesting, the new terminal is beautiful. The best part was when one of our brand new potential member won the airplane ride. Janet Nutley also got a trip up and Elizabeth Nutley. her daughter, took the challenge, overcame a few jitters and so went up. They are still flying! Thanks to Alan, our plane owner and pilot. Flying in a two seater plane is an experience to be remembered, ask Janet.
Speaking of Janet, Congratulations on her election as 2022-2023 BCRW President. She is busy getting ready to take over in January. Since we did not elect a new Secretary in September, Janet and her new executive committee in January will appoint Kathryn Adams a new member who joined in September. Kathryn has volunteered to serve.
As you may know, for years we have collected items for gift packages for the troops. We were working with the Blue Star Mothers organization out of Myrtle Beach. This organization dissolved last year so we have suspended our collections. Now a new chapter has formed, Cape Fear Blue Star Mothers in Southport. I have been in contact with their president and invited to their meeting this week to make a presentation to see if they are interested in taking on this project. I will keep you posted. If they agree to this we may have to scramble to get gifts for this year but will take on the project in earnest next year. More info to come on this.
Debbie Dennis, our program chair, has been working hard on planning our Candidates Forum for our November meeting on 11/4. Be sure to put this on your calendar and make every effort to attend. Of the 27 people who have already declared that they are running for some open seats statewide and locally in 2022, we have commitments from more than half that they will come to our meeting. This is very important, we all know how important it is to take back our country and it all begins now for the next election and for 2024. This is one of the first forums like this and we will be out in front on it. The hard work for 2022 has already begun. Your help is essential. Bring as many people as you can to this and help get everyone motivated. Certainly we know our country cannot survive as we know it under what we have now. It is up to the people to do what needs to be done now. Our best hope is to take back congress in 2022. You can make a difference.
On a lighter note, Our annual Christmas Party will be on December 2 at our regular meeting time. Lots of fun and frolic as we kick off the Holiday season. Let us know if you want to be part of the planning for this. We will also be installing Janet Nutley as our new president at this event.
We have done a lot and now we have a lot to accomplish. Let's get going.
Happy Halloween, and Happy Thanksgiving. See you all at the Candidates Forum.
Kathy Lawler, President BCR
